Position Location: Toronto, Ontario

TakingITGlobal (TIG) is seeking a Web / Graphic Designer to join our team for a unique opportunity. Under the direction of our Creative Director, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to stimulating projects and expand their skill-set and network. Our model applicant can take great pride in contributing not only to our office on a local level, but also to TIG’s world-wide network.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Working on design for internal and external youth-focused projects including website, logos, and print materials.
• Creating illustrations, photo manipulation
• Maintaining brand consistency in all web & print projects
• Preparing material for press, including consultation with printing companies
• Updating web design work and enhancing the TakingITGlobal online community platform.

Skills
• Experience with web production and graphic design, 2+ years industry experience
• A strong knowledge of the current web design standards and technology
• A solid foundation in typography and general brand design
• Extremely detail oriented. Strives for pixel perfect implementation on all browsers.
• A strong knowledge of user interface design, information architecture and SEO process
• Proficient in all Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, etc.)
• Working knowledge of Flash, After Effects, and Final Cut Pro is an asset
• Ability to turn a mockup into valid XHTML and CSS (not required but has basic knowledge)
• Self-motivated with the ability to work quickly and efficiently while conquering creative challenges under short deadlines
Problem-solver that can think outside the box when required
Ability to work in a group setting, as well as independently and also be able to take direction by different project leads
Strong consultation skills to interact with management, staff and suppliers to support program areas
Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate and build effective working relationships and to provide support and advice to the team regarding web production and graphic design issues

Call for application Artist in Residency Programme in AUSTRALIA

The Africa Centre, together with artist in residency programmes in Australia, Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and the United States of America have partnered to create the Artist in Residency (AIR) 2012 programme. The programme has been conceived to support artists from Africa who are provocative, innovative, relevant and highly engaged with both social issues and their art forms.
AIR manifests through existing artist in residency partnerships around the world that are prepared to select an artist from a short list provided by the Africa Centre, created from a Continental search, for one of their 2012 or 2013 residencies.
The costs of the residency and roundtrip airfare are included in each residency award made as part of this programme.
The residencies are available to all types of artists, but each residency on offer has different durations, structures and requirements. Applications must be sent between 1 April and 15 June 2012.

Africa in the Picture (AITP) is an annual film festival in Amsterdam showcasing a unique selection of films from the African continent and its Diaspora. African filmmakers from all over the world are welcome to submit their work for the 15th Edition of the festival which will take place from 18 till 23 September 2012.

Youth Employment Forum: Call for applications for Young Journalists/Bloggers

 

The International Labour Organization (ILO) will offer five young journalists/bloggers the opportunity to promote and cover the Youth Employment Forum, which will take place in Geneva from 23 to 25 May 2012.


The selected journalists/bloggers will be invited to attend the ILO Youth Employment Forum, providing them with a unique opportunity to hear individual stories from over 100 young women and men from around the world who are active in the promotion of decent work for youth.
The Youth Employment Forum will serve as a platform for young people to voice their views on the current youth employment situation and to share ideas on what can be done to provide more and better jobs for their generation.
Young journalists/bloggers will support the coverage of the Forum through social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter and blogs), articles, interviews and other relevant mediums. They will also report back to their regional and local communities, networks and organizations.

Criteria for Selection

  • Must be below 30 years of age,
  • Have journalism (online, print, photo, video, radio) and/or blogging experience,
  • Have working knowledge of English, French and/or Spanish. Knowledge of another of the official United Nations languages (Arabic, Chinese and Russian) is also an asset.

Selection Process

The selection panel of the ILO Youth Employment Programme encourages young journalists/bloggers who meet the criteria to enter the competition. The panel will seek to have a balanced representation of entries from different sexes, regions and language groups.

Required documents for the selection process

  • A CV
  • A brief cover letter explaining why you would like to participate
  • Two or three online articles, videos, etc. prepared by you, illustrating your journalism experience

Air travel and accommodation expenses for the selected young journalists/bloggers will be covered by the ILO.

4th INTERNATIONAL CONTEST OF POP MUSIC FOR YOUNG TALENTS “EUROKIDS“

 

TEN-DAY APPLICATIONS DEADLINE AT THE 4th INTERNATIONAL CONTEST OF POP MUSIC FOR YOUNG TALENTS “EUROKIDS“ RULES AND REGULATIONS

Rosso Arancio ass.n and the World Association of Festivals and Artists – WAFA invite you to participate in the fourth contest of young talents for pop music (Arrival date 14-06-2012, Departure – 18-06-2012). All contests and festival activities will take place in Maiori All the contestants and guest should arrive in Naples airport or at last in Rome, in this case the organization will try to organize transfers at an affordable price. 

AIMS OF THE CONTEST
The basic purpose of the contest is popularization and propagation of children's-youthful variety creativity, strengthening of friendly connections, creative contacts of children and youth of different countries, and also familiarizing of children of various nationalities with Italian creativity and granting of an opportunity by them to show the skills and features of the national culture. Tasks of the contest are: a) stimulation and development of children's and youthful variety creativity; b) expansion and a deepening of the international communications in the field of a cultural exchange 

CONDITIONS OF THE CONTEST 
Nominations and age groups: Soloists: 6 – 9 years old, 10 – 12 years old, 13 – 16 years old, 17 – 20 years old Vocal groups (not more than 12 people): 6 – 12 years old (according to the possibilities), 13 – 20 (performance – not less than 3 voices). 

JURY The competition is to be judged by an International Jury selected by the Eurokids Organizing Committee. The estimation of performances is spent on a ten-ball system AWARDS Grand Prix: A wonderful long weekend* in Italy for 2 persons ( sept/oct) Special prize:
 - The winner of category 17-20 years will take part at next edition of CANZONI DAL MONDO 2012 At following conditions: air ticket, accommodation will be for free ( www.canzonidalmondo.it ) - diplomas for all participants - medals for finalists
 - Statuette for the first three prize each category 
- Special prize for the best song ( only for singers that will perform an original song ) 
- Special WAFA prize will be granted for the most perspective artist of the contest . 
Contestants perform compulsory program and participate in 3 rounds of the contest: I round – the 1st song – all participants perform songs in the native language II round – the 2nd song (free to choose) – III round --- the 3rd song (free to choose, only for the participants who get the highest estimates during the first and second days - The song could even be one of the two already performed in the first two days) If the contest will enroll at least six vocal groups will create the category , otherwise the age of the senior from the duet, the trio, vocal group will be defining for division in age categories 

The artist could sing : - a song of own composition - which is written specially for the participant, - a song of the country - A world hit.

A) 2 songs in mp3 or wma format 
B) 2 photos in jpg format ( good quality ) 
C) Entry form with a sign of participant ( of parent if underage ) Every participant is obliged to have a soundtrack on CD audio. 

Soloists are authorized to have in a soundtrack the back-vocal, but only fragmentary part of the basic voice. The soundtrack registered with the main voice part in couplets is removed from contest, and participant is disqualified. The duet, trio, vocal group is forbidden to have the back-vocal in a soundtrack. The duration of competitive product should not exceed 3 minutes and 40 seconds. At excess of a limit of time the song will be mixed! the participant must strictly observe the program of festival

Ontario-Quebec Exchange Fellowship Program

Purpose of the Program
The Ontario-Quebec Exchange Fellowship Program allows students from Ontario to pursue full-time graduate studies at the master’s or doctoral level at a university in Quebec. This program offers outstanding students from Ontario the opportunity to live and study in the cultural milieu of Quebec. The program is sponsored by the Ontario-Quebec Commission for Co-operation in accordance with the interprovincial Agreement for Co-operation and Exchange in Educational and Cultural Matters.

Value of the Award
The Government of Ontario will award eight fellowships in 2006-2007. Candidates at the master’s level will receive$10,000 each; those at the doctoral level will receive $12,000 each.

Eligibility
In Ontario you are eligible to apply for an Ontario-Quebec Exchange Fellowship if you:

plan to register as a full-time student in the first year of a program leading to a master’s or doctoral degree. Unless you are a renewal candidate, you are not eligible to apply if you have completed one or more years of a program leading to a master’s or doctoral degree;
have maintained an overall average of at least B+ or its equivalent in each of your last two years of study;
are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a protected person. The “landed on” date on your permanent resident document can be no later than January 31, 2006;
have lived in Ontario for the last twelve consecutive months. This twelve-month period cannot include time spent at a postsecondary institution;
plan to register in September 2006 at a university in Quebec.
Conditions of the Award
If you receive an Ontario-Quebec Exchange Fellowship, you must comply with the following conditions:

You must be registered as a full-time student in a graduate program for the tenure of the award.
If you withdraw from university, transfer to part-time status, or fail to complete a term, you will be required to repay the award.
You may hold a fellowship for a maximum of two years of study at the master’s level and three years at the doctoral level. However, you may not receive more than three Ontario-Quebec Exchange Fellowships in total.
You may accept other awards, provided that:
a) the award is not made, directly or indirectly, by the Government of Ontario or the Government of Quebec; b) the amount awarded is not greater than one-half of the value of your Ontario-Quebec Exchange Fellowship.
You may not accept employment that will affect your status as a full-time student.
