JERICHO BREAKERS DANCE CREW

BIOGRAPHY OF THE MINISTRIES

Jericho Breakers Ministries started / commenced in late 2002 under the Glory Ministries International.

In 1997, the ministries started as a “Sunday school” which was supposed to be attended by every child that attended church service on Sunday under the leadership of several ministers from (G.M.I).

The ministry persisted as a Sunday school for quite a number of years, since the children were taught various things like teaching children how to pray, how to dance for the Lord, read the scriptures and memory verse among others.

After discovering that the children wanted & knew how to dance, in 2002 the Sunday school of Glory Church was later changed from “Sunday school” to Jericho Breakers. This was done because when ever the children danced, the anointing of God could flow to people and the people of the Lord were really touched by the way these children danced.

In the year 2002, a group of young people from Sunday school who knew very well how to sing and dance were organized to form a ministry. From then Jericho Breakers became a ministry of its own kind under the care & supervision of Glory Ministries International.

To date, the ministry is composed of about 20 youths from both sexes who have committed their lives to serving God all their lives preaching the word of God through their talents such as dancing, singing and other forms of performing arts.

The ministry derived its name from Hebrews11:30 therefore we believe that whenever we minister/ perform, people get blessed and others get relieved from evil spirits, infirmity, poverty, illiteracy among others.

Today Jericho Breakers is a ministry that engages in various activities such as singing, church comedy, miming, tutoring young ones at church and more specifically dancing various dances ranging from African to Western dances (performing arts).

CURRENTLY:

These youth have different potentials ranging from dancing, singing, academic excellence among others. Today the Ministry has got various youths with different backgrounds but with God’s grace they have changed positively to become good citizens. Currently Jericho Breakers is now one of the leading dancing groups in Uganda.

Jericho breakers Ministry think and believe that we can try to help youth discover their potentials, talents & spiritual gifts in ourselves so we can also try change the lives of our fellow youth in the society to change for the better. The fact that most of Jericho breakers come from compromising homes / societies {ghettos} such as Katwe, Mengo, Makindye, Najja nankumbi, we use this opportunity to reach people {youth} who desperately need Jesus in their lives. We have managed to do this through a series of activities like staging free of charge dance shows in their communities, among other things.

The ministry has used performing arts as a platform for sharing the word of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jericho breakers Ministry has also tried to change many lives of the youth who came from compromising background and homesteads through dancing, music, craft making among others.

VISION

Our vision at JBM is to instill a passion for ministry in today’s children and youth to plant a seed of righteous in their hearts that will stay with them for the rest their lives through music and dancing.
MISSION

A mission shouldn’t be one time event or a once in a lifetime trip… The real purpose behind a great commission is making of disciples not just go.

OTHER ACTIVITIES.

  • Poetry
  • B. Boy styling (Street Dance)
  • Youth Rights Advocacy {Freedom Of Speech} together with Bavubuka All Star Foundation, WAPI, Charity Foundations.

B BOY STYLING
Jericho Breakers uses B Boy Street Dance to separate the actual physical battle of a gang with the same intensity of the battle of a gang, attitude and it settles the battles. We use B Boy Street dance to express ourselves because some crew members had that gangster mentality but we had to pick up our goals & to pick up swagger to perform the works of the kingdom of God.

Also Jericho Breaker using Street Dance has helped to create a voice for youth through creating categories of music, art, fashion, various dances, attitude and other ways of expressing ourselves in that we have pride in our culture and bring in our own elements and explore the ways where we can Re-claim our voice in order to have self confidence and believe that we have values and that our life is important.

CHALLENGES OF THIS MINISTRY.

  2. We have no proper training gadgets thereby increasing rates of accidents during rehearsals.

  4. No proper documentation of our performance (video camera)
  5. Inadequate funding
