Borlaug Fellowship Program Accepting Applications



The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is pleased to announce the 2012 Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program (Borlaug Fellowship Program) for selected Feed the Future countries. These Fellowships are offered as part of the Feed the Future 21st Century Borlaug 21st Century Leadership Program. They are intended to increase the number of women in leadership positions in agriculture and, as such, only female applicants will be selected.
The Borlaug Fellowship Program promotes food security and economic growth by increasing scientific knowledge, advancing the transfer of new agricultural technology, and encouraging collaborative research to improve agricultural productivity. Under the Feed the Future 21st Century Borlaug Leadership Program, early to mid-career female agricultural professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong desire to aid agricultural development in their home country are targeted. 
Please note: The deadline for all countries is April 6, 2012.

Could you be a delegate? If you were born during or after 1986 and have qualities you think might make you a leader then you should be at One Young World 2012.
Delegates should have following skills, traits and beliefs:
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership potential and skills
  • Concern about global issues
  • Ability to generate and articulate impactful ideas
  • A commitment to volunteering or other extracurricular activity (evidence required)
You'll meet people like yourself from almost every country in the world. You'll be inspired by some of the world's great leaders and can discuss the things you care about and tell the world what you're doing to lead for a better future.

2012 Goi Peace Foundation - UNESCO International Essay Contest

Dear Youth Leaders:
Young people from around the world are invited to enter the 2012 Goi Peace Foundation - UNESCO International Essay Contest for Young People.

The theme for this year's contest is: "CREATING THE FUTURE WE WANT"
Future begins with the vision we hold now. What kind of future do you wish to create for yourself and the world? Please share your dream and ideas for making it a reality.

The deadline for entry is June 30, 2012.

Call for Proposals: Production Grants to Individuals


The Open Society Documentary Photography Project and Arts and Culture Program announce a grant and training opportunity for documentary photographers from Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Pakistan.
The grant is being offered to:
  • visually document issues of importance in the region; and
  • provide training and support to photographers from the region.
Approximately 10 cash stipends in the amount of $3,500 each will be awarded to photographers to produce a photo essay on a current human rights or social issue in the region.
Grantees will participate in two master-level workshops on visual storytelling through photography and multimedia. These workshops are led by internationally recognized photographers and industry professionals who will then provide ongoing mentorship and support throughout the six-month grant term.
The Open Society Foundations will pay travel and hotel expenses and provide a per diem to cover meals and incidentals for the workshops.
This grant is intended for photographers who are committed to pursuing a career in photography and have prior technical expertise and/or training. 

Deadline

The deadline for applying is May 10, 2012 at 5pm ESTThe grant will begin in November 2012 and end in June 2013.

ThinkQuest Competition 2012

 
Teams of students up to 22 years of age from around the world are invited to solve a real-world problem by using their critical thinking, communication and technology skills. Students, coached by teachers, will have to define the problem they intend to solve and produce an entry that presents their solution and the process they followed to develop their solution. Participants may enroll in one or more of the following competition events: ThinkQuest Projects, Digital Media, and Application Development.

Deadline for sending the application is 25 April 2012.
